How do I capture audio with analogue camcorder? Please help - driving me crazy!

Hi there!
I have connected my analogue camcorder to the PC via composite connection, and have connected audio to LINE IN. Although I get sound through my speakers when capturing the video (using Windows Movie Maker or Roxio DVD Builder) the audio is not captured at all. What am I doing wrong?
I have also tried an adaptor to plug both audio and video into the composite connection, but no audio comes through at all. Have also tried plugging in to Microphone connection (same thing). The only connection that gives sound is the LINE IN, but as I said I can't capture it.
Any advice appreciated.
Would it be easier to plug the VCR into the PC?
