avi to dvd limited resource

I have a couple of .avi files which I need to get to any type of dvd file. I also need to make a chapter list and menu for this.

Any suggestions on good programs,preferably free?

Plus, I do not currently have a dvd burner so im Going to use a frinds, but in the future if I were to want to burn .avi file and needed more space (maybe 4.7 GB) could I burn to a dvd disc with my cd burner or is that just the most idoitic thing ever said?

ok I just read the post on top of forum that answered most of my questions.

Only thing now is if cd players are incapible of burning to all dvd discs, or only dvd files.
