I posted earlier about this problem and here's what I did, just to try it. I loaded the ISO that i have into daemon tools (virtual drive) and had DVD Decrypter read it and set the file splitting to every 4 gigs. So it created three files, one being an MDS, the other two are I00 and I01 files. When i used alcohol to burn, i tried the MDS file, but it loaded both files, making the file size the total 6.06 gigs. So i just burnt the .I00 file and when i tried loading it in my PS2, the first screen came on with all of the copyright information, but then just a black screen. I'm so close. Could anyone help me? It would be much appreciated.

Hi all, I successfully transferred GT4 from an image to the HDD using HD Handiness, as I have done with many of my other games, but, it won't load. The image is 5.7GB.
After I select the game to start a glimmer of hope arrives as I see the first warning screen of the game, "Do not drive like this in real life, always use you indicator, etc etc" then the black screen descends, and ..... nothing.
I have tried all 8 possibilites of the 3 Modes, but nothing.
Can anyone help?
Thanks a lot:)

Has anybody managed to transfer the GT4 image to a DL disc? image downloaded was the xw-gt4-cht release giving an .iso 5.7gig in size. I have seen the same image available in .mds format but i assume they are the same source.
I have never needed to burn to DL media before and as this was my first attempt i was a little wary. After updating the Nec 3500g to newest (2.18 official f/w) i thought everything would be fine. Unfortunately only minutes into the process the burn failed. Media used was a Ritek +r DL (traxdata branded) Having had only a handful of DVD-R failures I was sure that it was not burner/pc issues.
I was going to invest in a network adapter and a HD but seemingly that doesnt work either from reading this thread.

I also downloaded one but is a Jap version
and I got it on a DL disc no problem but can't play since my PS2 won't read +R format........
my question seems silly but if I go HDD
all I need is HDD, Network Adaptor, and the HDloader?
anyone live in Vancouver know a good place for these thing (as cheap as possible)?

My problem is that I don't have a dual layered writer, so I need to know if there is anyway that I can compress this file or split it. No one has posted anything about this, they just say what they did. Can anyone tell me how to do either of these things? (split or compress to fit on DVD-R, single layer)?

You cant compress. All we can hope is that a release group can downsample some of the video and fit it onto a dvd-r. My PS2 will read dvd+r DL so i will update this thread if i have any luck.

when you make the image, could you possibly make it small enough to fit on a DVD-R and somehow hook me up with it? that would be nice... :)

Prologue was released last year, minda like GT 3.5. It had no mods, was a standalone game and came on a dvd5 ie < 4.5gig.
I managed to copy GT4 image to a Dual Layer Verb and i also get to the "Be a safe driver" blah blah on the boot up, then i get a black screen. My guess is that it is copy protected, you would think so, with it being Sony's single biggest title. We have to wait now, for one of the scene groups to provide us with a .ppf to play from backup. I certainly wont be wasting any more DL, not at £6 each. :S
edit - Did a bit of digging and the images available on the internet are exactly the same as an ISO created from an original disc (they have also been nuked by most nfo sites). My assumption that the game is protected seems even more likely. Guess we will all have to wait or play from the original!

I burned the .iso with Sonic Recordnow 7.21 with newest px engine. U can rename the .mdf to .iso, it is the same file just created with Alcohol with an .mds cue sheet. Like .bin and .cue with cdrwin.
I wouldnt waste a DL disc, i'm 99% sure its protected.
The burner i used was an NEC 3500a with 2.18 firmware with bitsetting to DVD-Rom compatible. Booted on a Magic V modded v9 PS2 (only to first welcome screen as previously stated)
I think the newest version of DVDDecrypter also supports DL burning.

I read the original Jap disc to an ISO using dvd decypter then wrote it back using the same, it all seemed fine, i had the game on pause so i swapped the original for the backup and it was ok till i rebooted the ps2 and i got the same black screen after the safety warning, incidently i used a pioneer 108 and ritek DL+R disc (Traxdata) it said the disc was RW on it but its not so be warned!! i thought if it didnt work i could just erase it but no such luck!! £4 down the pan & i got stung with an extra £19 import tax into the UK when the UPS guy delivered the game!!
P4 1400mhz, P4 2800mhz, Packard Bell 1000mhz, IBM T23 Thinkpad, X-Box matrix, PS2 Messiah 1,Sony Ericsson K700i for crappy photos on the move!!!
