Help!
I followed your guide on DVD Ripping. VERY well written, thanks! But, I'm confused when I clicked on your link and followed your instructions on creating a VCD with Ahead Nero. I have to MPEG files and when I following the instructions, I don't come up with separate chapters???
Also, I have a DVD-ROM & 32X CD writer.
Would an actual DVD-writer circumvent any of this? The price may very well be worth the time to me. Thanks for all the great information!!!!
VCD doesn't support chapters, only "tracks" which you can achieve only by having multiple MPEGs -- if you _really_ want to go through that, you can split your MPEG manually into smaller chunks and burn those smaller files into VCD and you have separate tracks after that which you can jump to using number pad of your DVD player.
DVD-R(W) or DVD+R(W) writers are becoming cheaper day-by-day and if you think you can afford one, go for it -- process doesn't actually come much easier if your movies are over 4.36GB, but the quality is much better :-)
Understood. I'm really interesting in playing these on a standalone DVD player. But, in order to make my "backup" copies, do I still have to use SmartRipper and go through the whole MPEG conversion process if I purchased a DVD+R(W)??
Can I go from a DVD-ROM to DVD+R(W) in less time?
Yeah, basically you're making 1:1 identical copy of your DVD when burning to DVD-/+R(W)/RAM, read through our forums, we have tons of threads covering DVD -> DVD-R process, it doesn't include any encoding at all. In best case scenario, you just rip the movie and burn it. In other cases (when the movie is longer than 4.36GB) you need to go through the hassle of removing unnecessary audio tracks, subtitles and possibly extras from the movie (but no encoding) and then burn the movie.
