When backing up movies, sometimes a thing comes up that lets you select the region for the disc. If I were to buy a Region 2 dvd, can I change the region in dvd shrink so it will play on Region 1 dvd players?

I am realy new at this but I think that you will find that DVD Shrink burns region free. This is found in the Options section.

KarlF is correct.
When you copy a movie with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter the end result is a region free DVD.

Will DVD Shrink be able to backup DVD's from different regions?

Your writer/rom is what needs to be region free and then when you want to copy a movie which is from a region that is not your region it can openn it so it can be viewed and copyied.
You can download either of these two programs on this site which will fool your DVD Writer/ROM into thinking it is a region free player WITHOUT it actually changing the region code in your equipment.
DVDRegionFree+CSS and AnyDVD 4.1 or higher will do the job, I have used both.
It just come on in the background when you insert a disc and you never know it is there.
So, with one of these installed you can then use DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to copy your movie to your hard drive which at the same time makes the copy region free.
I hope this helps you.

It's not region free (The s/w puts all region's on the copy - AnyDVD does)

If it was region free, then your DVD player would not be able to play the disc.

So Region Free actually means all regions

I hope this is clear enough
