Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have looked around for the answer and found nothing. I'm having a bit of trouble soldering wires onto those little round points on the ps2 mobo. The ones with the holes in the middle. Do I need to scrape any laquer off them first? It is a v4 PAL PS2.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

yes but dont damage them or the ps2 will not work , also a little flux helps when you solder to them .

Be extra careful scraping those, they are so easy to mess up and possibly cause perminant damage to your motherboard. They are difficult to solder to. Also be careful not to overheat them as that can easily damage them.

I just did my v9 with all the lil alt points on the bottom. I found if you smear the area with flux, put the solder point on it first for like an extra second, then bring the wire to it, it bonds fine. I pondered this for 2 days as I thought it was impossible to solder to the main chip with 42 legs on 4 sides. But finally got good joints when i applied some extra heat to the location first.

I attempted to solder to the via's on my v9, but ended up damaging the motherboard. Lucky enough I was able to repair it. I decided to solder straight to the chip legs and found it so much easier.

Thanks guys. This is looking more and more daunting. After an easy xbox mod I thought I would be able to do it but I think I'm going to see if I can pay someone to do it.

I hadn't thought about soldering straight onto the chip legs. It didn't even occur to me that those little round points actually led to the chip nearby.

still, I'm not sure I can get this right first time, and that's what is important.

Thanks for your help.
