Depends on your DVD Player a lot of DVD players will not play MPG directly from the disc.

If your DVD player will not play it then you will need to author or possibily rencode depending on the MPG format.

Try using a DVD Re-Writeable at least you wont waste a disc testing it.

It didnt work. When i right click on the file and click properties it says
Type of file: MPEG File
then it is supposed to open with windows media. (on my computer) and it works on the computer but not the dvd player

PS- what prog do you recommend using? I am using nero. Also, do you have aim so we can talk that way?

Unfortunately i dont have access to any messenger as im at work but not doing any work LOL.

To find out what MPEG file you have you can use a program called DVD2AVI as this will tell you what type of MPEG it is if i remember rightly, trying to think of the top of my head as not in front of my PC (There are many other programs that do the same thing)

As for reencoding well i dont bother with MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 as the DVD Authoring program i use "DVD Lab" allows me to import MPEG 1 & MPEG 2 files directly into it.

But if i must rencode to DVD then i use TMPGEnc.

Unfortunately you will have to rencode if you want it to play in your DVD Player.

A lot of trouble not really but you will learn over time, even though it may seem bewildering at first, you will become a dab hand in a little while.

I suggest you read through the guides and FAQ's to get more information and a better understanding.

Dont know about Windows Movie Maker, but i would not recommend it.

Depending on what format im converting, the only 2 rencoding programs i use are Cinema Craft Encoder & TMPGEnc.

You are going to need to find out what format the video file is before you convert it.

Have you tried running the MPEG through the program DVD2AVI?.

If so what are the results you see in the information panel.

Load the MPEG into DVD2AVI and then hit the F5 to preview the video file, you will then see the video information window.
