Help with a Lik-Sang mod chip

Greetings all. Right before the PS2 was released in the US, Lik-Sang sold some mod chips that claimed they would work on the Japanese and US systems - so I got one. Well, after getting screwed by a bogus merchant and waiting almost 4 years, I finally have a PS2 im my hands. Now, here in lies my question and your challenge: I need to know where to get a damn installation guide for my chip! On it, it says MDT in a yellowish circle and has the serial (I think that what it is at least) of MDT 2005EP 0030R. It has 18 pins and came with a little capasitor thingy (brown head with two wires coming out of it) with "472" on it. If ANYONE knows ANYTHING about this, please follow-up with a post. I'm very eager to play some backups and forigen games!!! PLEASE HELP

i haven't heard of MDT before, i tried a google search and came up with nothing. why don't you try emailing lik-sang? i wonder why it came with a capacitor.

I can't seem to get an email to them. I keep getting errors when I send. If you have their email or a way to message them, then I'll check that out too.

Whoa, right before the PS2 was released eh? That thing must be pretty old, and unless the PS2 that you finally got is a V1, I doubt that chip will be very stable, and the code written in it may have a lot of errors. Even modchips today still have some errors that are being constantly fixed with firmware updates, and I doubt that the code is upgradeable.
In the meantime you could check the version of your PS2 by going to this link http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2520 if you have new ps2 (lets say V4 or higher) i wouldn't risk it, it's probably unstable and could cause damage to the ps2. How much did it cost?

It was around $35 US. I think I have a version 4 or 5 ps2 as well. I'm going to see if I can get it fixed though. I got it for free, so if there's a chance the chip will work, I'll take it. Also, I get a clicking and grinding sound when it tries to load. When it clicks, the CD stops spinning. Plays DVD videos, so it might be the eye. I'll just clean it and see if that works 1st... but that's another post ;)

good idea. most reading problems are caused by dust and dirt on the lens. dip a q-tip in rubbing alcohol and LIGHTLY clean the surface of the lens in a circular motion. this should help a lot.

I just broke down and sent my PS2 into Sony. Hope they can do a good job. Anyone have news on that chip? Maybe there's a way to exchange it for something that will work for sure or would it work at all if I install it?

Wait, so you're getting Sony to install the modchip for you? How would that work? I didn't think they even condoned the usage of modchips at all! did you send them an email, and they offered doing it for you with an installation fee?

lol! I'm sending my PS2 in for repairs with the disk drive/laser. It doesn't look like I"ll be using that chip though... If you know anyone who wants to buy it, that'd be great. IF you know of a good chip for V5 then send me some info.

Oh right! there were also problems with grinding noises. Haha sorry. As for getting a good, stable, reliable modchip, I
reccomend the Matrix Infinity, it works great on all versions.
If you were to use that old modchip that you have, you would have to patch all of your backups, use a "utility disc", swap it with the copied cd, etc.. If you're going to do all of that then you might as well save your warranty and get a SwapMagic disc. With other newer modchips, you may have to hold reset or a button on the controller when powering up your ps2, but with the matrix infinity, everything is completely automatic. you just put it in and play. Another feature that I like is that you can skip the "Sony Computer Entertainment" screen (with the blue clouds) and the "PlayStation 2" screen, and just load the game right away! Firmware updates are available on the Matrix website and are updated regularly, so you don't have to worry about it getting obsolete. Another modchip that you may be interested in is the DMS4 Lite/Pro. Like the Matrix Infinity, the DMS4 has autoboot capabilities as well as multi-region dvd playback and macrovision removal(same with Matrix). The difference between Lite and Pro is that the Pro version has a 2MB flash memory to store firmware upgrades and homebrew applications. Some people say that 2MB is too much and not really worth the extra money to get Pro, since you can just use the memory card to save homebrew files. The DMS4 is a lot more expensive, and personally I think that the Infinity chip is the way to go. A lot of the features you can get for free by downloading them on the internet, such as the PS2 reality Media player(lets you watch avi movies and listen to mp3s on your ps2). But don't get me wrong, the DMS4 is a great modchip, and you'll have as good results as the Matrix Infinity, but I just don't think its worth the extra money. I just bought a DMS4 Pro. It looks sexier in person than on the internet. Grr... ANYWAY, I'm going to take it to a friends and hopefully get it installed. His dad has done a few PS2 mods, so he's got the tools and know-how. Still waiting for Sony to send me back my PS2. I got the HDD and network adapter, so I'm all set to play 'imports.' I'll tell you all how it goes. Wish me luck!

sounds like you got jacked, i'd be willing to bet that lik-sang, or whatever, chip isn't even for a PS2, asian computer overstock, ha! Why in hell would it come with a capacitor?

Good question... I'm still trying to figure out what that damn thing is for. It doesn't matter now though. I got a DSM4 Pro installed thanks to much help from everyone that gave me feedback. This place made me realize dreams can come true.... Thank you all. Hope I can give to others as much as you gave to me. Cheers!
