This might be a known issue, I've looked around and didn't find a thing about it.

Recently my PS2 stopped reading dvd's (either games or movies). When starting to read dvd's it makes some spinning noise, repeats it a few times and stops returning to PS menu.

It reads perfectly music cd's. I know nothing about this issue so I expect you can give some help. Should I get the problem fixed at Sony or can I take it to any modder/chipper (regarding the fact that I'm thinking chipping my PS2).

you could try adjusting the laser height. my ps2 will only read blue disc games after adjusting the gear

How should I adjust it? I've disassembled it early this afternoon... I wouldn't really know how to do it!
