I have a PS2 v3 with a Magic 3.1 modchip which stopped working about a week ago. I took off the cover and checked all the wires/soldering points and two of them came loose and/or were barely soldered on. If you look at the diagram at http://www.chipinstallation.com/diagrams/magic3/v3.jpg it's letters H and I. I do not have any experience with soldering and was wondering if this is something that I could maybe just fix myself or if I should take it to a pro. If it's something that shouldn't be too difficult, can someone tell me what I would need to repair this? I'm dying to play my PS2 and really want this fixed ASAP!

hi,your link to the install diagram don't seem to work for me and it's been some time since i saw the inside of a v3 but seem to remember that those points connect to very fine chip legs, if that is the case then you will need a fine tip soldering iron and some skill at soldering to re-connect those wires

Please try the link now. It was inclucing the , in the URL. Is there anyway to run any tests to make sure everything is working properly after soldering the two wires (with some type of meter or something)?

Is 0.2 mm the correct tip size? What kind of solder do I need to use?

a 0.2mm tip should be fine and all you should need is standard fluxed electrical solder, simply tin the wire, place on the correct leg of the chip then use the iron to heat the connection for a few seconds and it should bond, when you have re-soldered the connections use a bright light and a magnifier to check for solder bridges

Devilhunt is right, If there is still a little bit of solder left on the wire All you need is some flux on it and just heat it on the point. It will bond smoothly.
