Merging AND SYNCHING audio with video

Dear all
Greetings, I am new here. Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum, or if this has been asked before (I searched to no avail).

I was given a digi camera for xmas, it does MOV videos. For some very strange reason it does not record sound (it's not designed to).

So to record basic videos of myself playing guitar, for my own critique, I wanted to look into recording sound and video separately but simultaneously, then merging the two.

I appricatiate I will need a clapper board to synch the two sources.

Simple question:
What's the best software to allow me to merge AND SYNCH audio with video?

Some I have seen allow the simple overlaying over audio to video, but I need to be able to synch two tracks the will not start at the same time.

Many thanks in advance for any tips.
