MarkNZ - I copied Van Helsing using DVDShrink and it worked just fine. I know that doesn't help much, but I can tell you that DVDShrink will do it, so maybe there is another issue on your end - scratched disc, etc.

I have ripped over 400 DVD's and this is the only one that will not work. I have even got a brand new original + Burner and this does the same thing.

DVDshrink crashed as well..

The DVD RE2 and Little black book no problem (Just ripped) so explain that one.

I think it's time to give up on that one!!!!!!!

Out of all the S/W I have tried I can still say ANYDVD & CloneDVD2 is still the best on the Planet.

MarkNZ.........I'm sorry to tell you, but I just copyied the movie and watched through it and it worked fine.
I used DVD Shrink to open it, then DVD Shrink in re-author mode to grab the main title and 5.1 sound, and the end up compression was 83.6%.
I then burnt with Nero at 4x.
Perfect copy!!

Try running DVD Region+CSS Free v5.61, or DVDIdle Pro v5.61 (both available on afterdawn) then rip with either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter.

I've only had problems ripping DVDs a couple times, and running DVDIdle Pro did the trick for me both times.

Good luck

I just went through a similar problem last night with The Chronicles of Riddick.

Frist DVD Shrink wouldn't read the whole movie, so I tried trusty DVD Decrypter. I got a read failure message in ISO, so I tried file mode, and ran into a log similar to yours except there were 72 areas marked as 'suspect'. Skipping through it ended up skipping the whole VTS_01_2.VOB. I ran DVD Idle pro and tried again, but no luck.

I usually put the original DVD in a no-name DVD ROM/ CD-RW drive and blank disks in my Pioneer DVR-106. Just for the heck of it I tried loading the original DVD into my Pioneer, and -- I had no problem ripping with either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter using the Pioneer drive...

I've never ran into this before; I've always used the no-name DVD drive for reading the DVDs. I don't understand why the no-name DVD drive can play the movie, and Windows explorer could show me the files without a read failure, and then not be able to rip it using the same programs, but I just thought I'd share...

good luck.

It could be the disc the movie is on. I have gotten bad discs that wouldnt work even though they appeared to be flawless. Try another copy.

I know there has been a lot written on the sony/universal copy protection issues. Many Movies have a new copyright protection besides the css stuff. It basically puts minor errors on the disk. A tv based dvd player does not pick them up. However for ripping a dvd, it will stop that. It is beginning to show up a lot now. I just wanted to tell everyone my simple solution. I use dvdshrink latest version. Then I just run AnyDVD in the backround. It takes off all the encryptions including the new one. It burns fine everytime. This combo of AnyDVD and dvdshrink is very important now. Dvdshrink is not going to come out with any more updates. They have stopped updating it. So as long as you have something that will take off the latest encryption schemes, dvdshrinks life cycle could be extended for a long time
