I'm new to this, downloaded Mac the Ripper. Is it possible to
use iDVD as the compressor and burner?

Also, can I import DVD footage (by using Mac the Ripper) into
iMovie or Final Cut Express?

Many thanks - and sorry if this question has been asked
before, couldn't find it on the forum.

To edit any dvd video you'll need to convert it to quicktime first. Then you can edit it with imovie or final cut. You need to use dvdxdv or cinematize for that. OSEX can convert to quicktime too but it is buggy.

iDVD is not a compressor or ripper and can only burn a 1 hour dvd on an APPLE drive. I'd use toast for burning.

Many thanks - I'll work away on that. Though iDVD does do compression - you can now get 2hrs on a DVD using it.

Are you talking about mpeg2 compression or compressing a VIDEO_TS folder?

I don't know the answer to that - I just know that from burning DVDs on iDVD that it will fit up to 2hrs on a DVD - up to 1hr there's no loss in quality and over 1hr it will use some sort of compression.

YES. So 1 hour at full quality. Check the guide for compression and burning then!
