I recently Purchased a Aviator Bluetooth USB Dongle from htp://www.mobilefun.co.uk I am having problems getting it to work, I wonder if anyone might be able to help.
The problem I have is this, if I open "My Bluetooth Places" and try to click on ANY of the Icons displayed within I get the error message "My Bluetooth Places could not connect to the Bluetooth stack COM server (BtStackServer.exe)". When I close this error message pop-up box my screen seems to flicker briefly and my windows task bar disapears for a second or two. Also in my system tray is a network icon (the one with two computers) but this has a red Cross over it. If I double click on this icon the network connections box opens up and shows the following network connections: Dial-up (My Internet ISP) and LAN or High-Speed Internet (Bluetooth Network). In the status section for the Bluetooth Network it says "Network Cable Unplugged". This I dont understand as there is no cable to "leave unplugged"?
I followed the install rules very carefully, I inserted the Software CD that came with the dongle and double clicked on "Setup.exe" in the Bluetooth\BTW1.3.2.7-SP3 directory. I just completed the install until I was asked to plug-in the hardware dongle and then, after inserting the dongle, it seemed to install OK until I try to click on any of the Icons contained within when the error that I described above happens.
I have checked that the USB extention cable is working by using it to connect a small USB Storage device and it seems to be fine, so it cant be that.
If I plug the Dongle directly into one of my USB sockets in the back of my computer Win XP seems to see it as it pops up the "Found New Hardware". I have tried both the "Install The Software automatically" and "Install from a list or specific location" options and the drivers seem to install OK until I try to use "My Bluetooth Places" and get the same error message.
It seems to me that something somewhere just is not working right?
I have searched the WWW for help on this matter and have found this error mentioned on a fair number of Bluetooth and Moble related forums with various fixes suggested. Its at this point that I get lost as I am not an expert user and they start talking about hex editors and that goes over my head. One theme that is mentioned a lot is the Driver Versions.
I believe that my dongle is based on, or manufactured by CSR? In my device manager the dongle is listed as CSR USB Bluetooth Device. The forums mention many times that users with this problem should first make sure thay have the latest drivers and Bluetooth Stack COM Software which they say is now V1.4.2.10. In "My Bluetooth Places" it says the version that comes on the Install CD is V1.3.2.7 (if this is the case then the drivers on the CD are clearly out of date).
I have spent the whole of today searching the www for "CSR USB Bluetooth Device" and associated drivers, and eventually found http://www.csr.com. I spent a good few hours searching their site and reading up but I could not find any drivers or mention of any down-loadable software at all.
I also discovered that CSR uses drivers and software supplied by Widcomm so I went to thier www site "www.widcomm.com". From there I got forwarded to http://www.broadcom.com/drivers/ where they state on the www page that they dont offer "end-user" support for Broadcom products - I quote
"Broadcom offers support for Ethernet NIC products and does not provide end-user support for other products at this time. Please contact your product's manufacturer for support related issues."
And this leads me back to this posting. I have a dongle that I can not get to work and can not find support for it anywhere on the www, I am a tiny bit "fed-up" as I am sure you can imagine.
Please can you make any suggestions regarding how I can get this to work? All I want to do is connect my Motorola V500 to my PC and send Ring Tones, Pictures and all the usual stuff to and fro? Maybe Bluetooth isnt the way I should go, what about a USB data cable setup?
For your information I have included a brief description of my computer in case it helps.
Thank you for your help and time.
Yours faithfully,
Kenny Green
