Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so apologise if anything here has been explained before. I've searched the forum, but still can't really find a definate answer to my questions - I've just bought a Sony DCR-HC14E.
I'm aware of the increased bandwidth/baud rate of firewire over USB - but if I get a firewire cable, will the quality of the captured video be increased? I've tried capturing via a few programs - namely WMM, VirtualDub, etc but the quality of the uncompressed video capture from VD isn't that good - is this due to the restriction on the bandwidth available? I'm capturing on a P4 2.4 / 512DDR laptop. When I've compressed the captured video, the quality isn't that much greater either (using DIVX as the codec). Can anyone recommend a codec that's any better?
Also, I saw it asked before on the forum, but no one really answered it - is it possible for Windows XP to be able to map the camcorder as a removable drive? In the manual it does so with some 'Memory Stick' - I'm asuming that must be for the HC15E, as the manual for this camcorder is for the 14E, and 15E. If not, can a memory 'stick' be added to the camcorder - or does a memory stick mean like a USB memory storage device/pen ?
[edit]
Forgot to mention, if it's possible for WinXP to mount the camcorder as a viewable filesystem, is the video captured on the DV Tape avaiable as like an .AVI or .MPEG/MPG file? - what format is DV stored in, in other words - thanks!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris
