AVG update file not showing on dvd disk

Hi there folks, hope some1 can help me. I have downloaded a movie which has appeared as .avg update file. It plays fine on my VLC player, but when I burned to dvd, registers as nothing on my dvd player. Can I convert this file to .avi or something similar? I have a digitrex 4000 which enables me to view .avi files and .bin through my player, but not this avg update file.
