i have recorded some mpeg 4 video in 640x240, the highest resolution i could get from my tv card. i'm trying to back up some old vhs tapes to dvd, that's why i wanted the highest resolution possible

when i play the video in windows media player. i cannot resize the picture, wmp insists on putting black bars at the top and bottom and will not change the aspect ratio. the video of course is distored this way, and everything looks fat and short

how do i play 620x240 video in 4:3 ratio, do i need different software or am i forced to record in 480x240 or 352x240 so the distortion is less?
