You are not necessarilty having ripping speed problems.
Different movies rip at different speeds depending on their encoding etc. and sometimes condition of the original.
DVD5 normally rips much faster than DVD9.
Would guess that your first movie was a DVD5.

I second that................
Pearl Harbor is a DVD9 for sure.............
Also, it also depends on exactly on the disc the files are located.
Also you should notice that the rip speed starts off at a value and usually increases during the rip - this is due to the centrifugal speed differences and distance from the centre of the disc, ie takes less time to navigate one rpm in the centre, compared to the outer circumference (at the same speed), so a speed increase has to be there in order to maintain maximum data speed transferral.

I to was in a Fowl mood rroettger I am new to the posting sorry about double post
but is this the case witheveryone different movies take a longer time to rip than others i am ripping white chicks from a backup and it took about 15 to 20 minutes is this good or bad just to rip also I was told a lite on rom which I have a LTD-163 will rip at about 8x to 12x and the one I have will not even do that . I was told they are not locked at one speed for ripping but seems to me it is. If this makes sense please help

It also depends on what program you are ripping with.
The only time I get 12X is with DVD Decrypter when in file mode. Then use Shrink. If you are copying a backup you do not need to rip. If you have Nero, they have a tool to give your DVD a test drive. Check to see if you have the lastest firmware from Liteon.

If you are 'backing up a backup' then you could just use a 'disc to disc', or 'on the fly' setting within Nero - HOWEVER it is not a flawless operation and can be risky, especially if your PC specs are a little below average and the media used.............................
The other reason that it maybe 'reading' slow is the media you are reading from, do you know what speed the media is, as you will find out that on 'consumer produced blanks' you cannot obtain anyway near the speeds you get from a 'commercially stamped/purchased' one.
