now...after some poor sound recording which i could only do once, i put it into final cut. but, since the sound level was so low, i raised the db level up to 5 but one problem. there is so much static taht i think i'm going insane. is there a filter, or any way to filter out the deep static coming from the file?

you need to use the EQ (1k to 6k) to knock out the high-end but you'll get a muffled sound.

You can strip the sound portion then use either Goldwave or SoundForge on the sound file. Each has filters to improve your sound quality substantially. Lots of work involved, but either will help a lot substantially!
