I received some 4X DVD-R's in the post this morning, I put the blank in my 105,Nero 5999 detected it was 4X right away,it also let me select 1X 2X or 4X.I simulated the first disc to be on the safe side, simulated no probs, burnt no probs @4X, I verified the disc after burning,100% error free!
Played back in my Pioneer 105,Pioneer 106S,and my Mustek DVD 520 standalone player no problem at all.
The discs cost £2.75 ,but like anything in time they'll drop in price.
I also have some 2X media to try out,I'll post my results as soon as I've used them.
You can get the four speed media from here,www.digitalpromo.co.uk

Hi m8,I dont work for digital promo,I'm just letting you guys know,as it's hard enough to find 2X media for the 105 yet alone 4X,I was just sharing what I manged to solve with the rest of you guys,no point in having something if you cannot use it to it's full potential.
I do not work for Digital Promo,I'm just a customer.
If you are unhappy with me posting these comments, then I'll quiote happily post my information on another DVD board.I was just trying to be helpfull @ the end of the day.
I may post my results of the 2X media I have, then again why bother if you assume everybody is spamming!

Pug, your information is very much appreciated.

I wonder when (if?) we'll be as fortunate with +R/RW media? I still have to burn all my +RWs at 1x.

The only thing I did not like about your post is at the very bottom.Another Great deal from so and so.When you put this at the bottom of your post,it DOES make it look as you are posting for them. You look at it! Would you not take it that way?"You already mentioned the site in your post, which is normal and appreciated.

You are right A. klingdon I have a ricoh mp5125 which is a good burner but i have to burn my media at 1x. I just wonder when the + rw people will realized they are going to have to drop their prices in order to compete. What you think?

Hi. I think you're lucky, hartwell, to have the Ricoh 5125, a second-generation machine that also accepts +Rs. My machine, a 5120, is a first-generation unit that only accepts the more costly +RWs. They tell me (various webpages) that despite Ricoh's promises to the contrary, this unit is *not* flashware upgradable to accept +Rs, as most, (all?) owners of 5120 units manufactured prior to April 2002, are S.O.L. <sigh>

But yes, you are absolutely correct - the price of +R/RW media sucks. The format is new enough than suppliers can get away with it, so the only thing you and I can hope for, is that other manufacturers get into the game to create some healthy and needed competition.

Right now, locally (Canada), it costs anywhere from $10-$15 (can) for a single +rw, which is insane. (Verbatim = $10; HP = $15). It kind of makes you wonder what on earth makes Hewlitt Packard five-dollars better per disc, you know? They sure as hell don't work any better and I've had to trash two of them already (Tawainese-made) because of too many unrecoverable errors. (The Japanese-made ones are 'ok' though). Outside of these two sole brands, I have not seen another kind in the entire Halifax/Dartmouth area.

And yes, they'd better smarten up soon with their pricing scheme, or -R/RW media makers will drill them into the ground, which they are already starting to do.

These discs are recordable/rewritable DVD+RW Discs.

Bulkpaq 4th Generation - 2x Speed - 4.7gb DVD-R Discs

Green top, code it states is from TDK!

Simulated / burnt / verified @ 2X

Same place as above,89p a disc or £19.00 for a tub of 25.

Also tested CHOICE Branded 2x SPEED "Blue Top" 4.7gb DVD-R Disc's.
Blue Tops, code was also TDK

they simulated / burnt / ok @ 4x but did not verify !!!
So i'd give these ones a wide berth.

Hi Pug.

Pretty big difference in price between -R and +R, eh?

Until I learn how to make flawless (transcoded) backups to dvd ( *one* movie per *one* disc), I'll not be buying very many +RW blanks. Already have an overpriced supply at hand, collecting dust.
