Burnt DVD's on PS2 Question

I have been making backups for my DVD's sicne christmas and realize that my PS2 cannot play burnt DVD's, yet some of my friends tell me that it will work on their PS2 but not on mine. Is their a reason for this? Is their anyway around this?

You might try a change in media. A lot of PS2's like a decent quality -R media as opposed to a +R media. Crappy media is also a no-no -

I agree with Pete as usuall :-)

It is most likely a media issue and if you are using +R's I have found that PS console's like the -R's better :-)

Does it have anything to do with my PS2 though, becasue I am using a disc that will work on one but not mine.

There are currently 12 different versions of PS2. Some play -R's and some play +R's, some play either and some play none.

v4's and below will only read dvd-r
v5's and above dvd-r/dvd+r
ps2's have trouble reading compressed dvd.
check out this to make sure you are using correct type media

* Version 4 (Gap/No Gap) - the difference between v4 "Gap" and v4 "No Gap" illustrated
*
Version 5 - SCPH-30000R, 30001R, 30002R, 30003R, 30004R, or 30006R. Also, some SCPH-30000, 30001, 30002, 30003, and 30004 models have a V5/V6
*
Version 5 & 6 - the difference between these two versions illustrated
* Version 7 - SCPH-39000, 39001, 39002, 39003, 39004, 39008 or 37000
* Version 8 - Only in Japanese consoles. SCPH-39000, or, SCPH-39006 (GH-022 BIOS 090)
* Version 9 - if you have SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003, 50004, 50006, or 50007 you have a v9 or v10 board.
* Version 10 - SCPH-5000x, with date code "3D" to the right and below the serial number on the back of the console. (GH-026 board)
