problem with NEO-FIX xii in v12 ps2

installed a dms4lite in my v12 ps2 with no problems after 1/2hr of gameplay i became paranoid about the laser bunrout so i ordered a neo fix equivelent, it has the diode fix and the pic, i followed the instructions http://www.i-c.bz/slimline-fix.htm and the ps2 wouldn't boot the standby light would flick off then straight back on. so then i tried the neoasic instructions http://www.neoasic.com/dia-neofix-v12.php using their 5v and ground point, the ps2 now boots and starts to run games it gets just past the ps2/toxic screen then the screen goes black and u can hear the laser noisily scratching back and forth and it continues doing this until it stops.

what have i done wrong ?

this is on a PAL unit.
