I am trying to download The Two Towers movie, because someone told me it was already in Kazaa. I´ve downloaded 3 types of files and they all work the same way: time passes normally, but there is no image and no sound. They might be bogus files not corresponding to the named film, but how can I see them on my computer. One of them is from TMD and I recently learned that they encode their movies with specific codecs. I have it, but the results are always the same. Can someone help me ?

sounds like you've either been jipped in your download, or you don't have the codecs...
Download the Nimo Codec Pack, either through Kazaa or via Google search.
Be sure to use Kazaa Lite, Kazaa without the Spyware that watches you! www.KazaaLite.nl or www.KazaaLite.com

I´ve already got the Nimo pack, but either I don´t know how to use it, or definetly they´re bogus files.

Download DIVX 5.0.2 (or which ever is latest). They claim their codec can play most MPEG-4 files. But note, TMD usually use 56k MP3 audio, but they might have used WMA, therefore download DIVX 3.11a (you get the audio and video codec)

Plan B: get the 4-letter code from the AVI file...
http://www.moviecodec.com/identifycodec/avi.shtml
This will determine the codec used for video compression. Once this is known, you should be able to determine if the codec is installed on your system, or if you need to find it... I'd suggest google search for finding the correct one.
It sound's like your having the MP43 problem with microsoft's MPEG4 version 3 codec. This one gets a bit buggy... If you need different versions of the MP43 codec library (DLL file) let me know... Post your results....

My guess is that youve been duped and that you have gotten a null file, i have had this happen to me many times, as for the tmd releases try going directly to their website and see what they have and havent released, all their releases even show you the actual size, in the near future you should go to http://www.vcdquality.com/ they will tell you whats been released and hasnt and by whom.

TMD moviez sucks monkey nutz.. the best quality movies are always direct DVD rips.. of course its legal to make backup copies of movies that you already own.. I would never suggest pirating movies..

arshan_,
3 words: Nimo Codec Pack.
This should solve your problem. If it doesn't, then you should delete the file, because it would be to complex to debug.

LOL some of u ppl make me laugh
for those ppl who download video files from kazaa ect ect., and are seeing just a blank black screen, i've got 1 word: FAKE!!!!!!!!!!
there are more fake files on the p2p networks than there are real files these days, 'well movie files anyway'.
The only full proof way of knowing if ur file is legit or not is 2 preview the file, checking file lengths and size does not always work and also dont get sucked in by a over the top file discriptions i.e BEST MOVIE THIS YEAR!!! SHARE NOW!!, but do watch for file discriptions which say they are 100% real (only working copy on kazaa) those files tend to be real, most of the time ;/ (1mb should b enough for 10-20sec preview).
But if ur sure its a real file try downloading k-lite codec pack, its got all the codecs ur'll ever need and some you dont ;).
and still if ur not satisfied you can check out www.vcdhelp.com or www.doom9.org
Happy Hunting =)

LOL very true.
For the REST OF YOU.... LISTEN UP! :-) There is an ENTIRE THREAD dedicated to all the problems people have with codecs because they dont take the time to ready sticky threads that already answer their problems: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/48608
