that sounds like something i've suggested here before. i like to use dvd-rw's a lot of times if i'm not sure the final result will be to my liking. especially if i have to use a lot of compression. it's basically just a practice burn. i'll make sure all of the settings are exactly the way i would have them set if i were burning to a dvd-r. if everything is cool, i burn the same image to a dvd-r and erase the dvd-rw. if not i keep erasing it till it's just right. of course, i'm very picky about stuff like this so i'm probably about the only person who takes the time to do that. to me it's well worth it. u can shop around and get very good quality dvd-r's at great prices. like a 50 pk for $20. and a 5 pk or smaller of dvd-rw's for less than $10. plus, i like to borrow dvd's from others or check some out at the library, especially the ones i would like to see but not necessarily own, and burn them on some dvd-rw's and it's like having my own video store where i can watch what i want, when i want, and when i'm done i can erase it and get something else. i got a 25 pk of dvd-rw's for $20 a couple of months ago. very handy.
sorry my answer was so long winded. i like to share.

If you are having problems with burning, DVD-RW's are a good idea to experiment with unto you get it right.

If not just use normal DVD-R.

Playback of DVD-RW tends to be more problematic in standalone machines.

There is no difference in quality between the two.
