dvd-r weakens the ps 2 lens??

lately these days i have a friend who believes that dvd-r weakens the lens that raeds the ps2 games.i tried to explain him that it could not be possible but no now he fears dvd-r only trust dv+r.what are thought guys had any of you heard something similiar?any replys would be helpfull so i can show my friend that his stupid dvd-r story is wrong.thanks in advance.

heres what i know. dvd-r works with ver4 and earlier. dvd+R works with ver5 and later. as for damage caused by the medias format...i don't think so. maybe if you tried jamming a laser disc or n64 cartridge into the PS2.
