Well after burning about 12 faulty games I concluded there had to be a problem. Lately I have been trying to back up games and the games appear to work. After initially working the game will eventually freeze up at some point during the gameplay or menu. It hasnt just been one games, it has been over 1/2 a dozen different ones and the same problem. I am using a Benq EW822u 8x+Dual External Dvd+/-Rw and Sony08D1 dvd-r disks. I am using Dvd Decrypter and burning at 1x and 2x. I have tried everything... Cleaning my laser, using a differnt copy of the game to back up, reading the file once or twice. Can somebody please tell me WHAT IN THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?

Your media may be the problem
Check here.
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

I use Verbatim <MCC>---(Manufacturer)----IMPORTANT

I have 30+ backups With DVD Decrypter burning at 2X
(Make sure you shutdown any background applications when burning,you also may want to increase the system Pagefile as well).
Other than that Your Firmware might not be updated.
Also if your ps2 is above ver 4 use +r disks!
Good Luck

Ok, I Have a v9 ps2, I have heard dvd+r's will work better and not freeze. If true, what types of dvd+r's are most reliable?

Those are not what your looking for

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<--VERBATIM
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)

Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:

LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW)
PRINCO = Princo = (-R)(-RW)
RITEK = Ritek = (-RW)
ONIDTECH = OnidTech = (-R)

Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:

RITEKG01, RITEKG02 = Ritek = (-R)
PIODATA = Lead Data = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded PIO = Fake Pioneer = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded SONY = Fake Sony = (-R)
Unbranded MXL = Fake MXL = (-R)
ACCU = Unknown OEM = (-R)
LONGTEN = Unknown OEM = (-R)
AN31, AN32, ANWELL, AN30 = Unknown OEM = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (+R)(+RW)
MATRIX = Unknown OEM = (-R)
CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R)
ANYTHING ELSE = Unknown OEM or NEW
