Can i use a hard drive disk if my laser is faulty,

your laser would still need to be able to read the hd loader cd.

well any ideas on how to adjust the laser on the silver ps2. as when i was cleaning it i moved the adjuster on the back left side, but it worked ok but kept freezing so i moved it again, now i get disk read error??? i know its only a simple thing so dont really want to get ripped off by sending it to a shop for repair. any ideas????
