There has been some discussion of the COM ports that your phone uses while connected to the PC. Some have indicated that switching the COM port to an alternate one allowed their phones to finally communicate with their PC via the Mobile Phone Tools.

You switch the COM ports in Windows Device Manager. Your phone HAS to be connected. To get to Windows Device Manager do the following:

Win 98/Me: Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Select Properties, then select the Device Manager tab at the top.

Win XP: Unless you've added that icon to your desktop you do this: click START, then right click on the My Computer icon, select Properties at the bottom. Click on the HARDWARE tab at the top, then the Device Manager button.

Win98/Me/WinXP: Click on the (+) by Modems and you should have something like USB Phone Modem or Motorola USB modem or similar. It should be obvious. Right click on that and select Properties. Click on the Modem tab to see what COM port your phone is currently assigned to. On my laptop, it is assigned to COM5. On my desktop, it is assinged COM3. Your mileage may vary. I'm only providing you what MY settings are.

Anyway, on WinXP (I don't have a 98/Me/2000 computer) click on the Advanced Tab next and then the Advanced Port Settings button. At the bottom you should have access to a drop down menu where you can select the COM port you want your phone to use (unless it indicates that the COM port is already in use). I would probably stay within the COM1-COM5 range if possible although you have access to COM1-COM256.

I don't have access to a Win98/Me/2000 computer to check if the way you access the Advanced tab is the same.

If you were able to successfully switch your COM port and get your phone to work. Please post here and let us know.

If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.
