cd/dvd RW drive doesn't recognize disk (when changing from one to another)

I have a toshiba notebook with a toshiba sd-r6012 cd/dvd RW drive. My problem is that when I change from one disk to another and open the browser or (D) drive it appears the computer still thinks the previous disk is still in the drive. I have to reboot my computer for the new disk to show in the (D) drive. This happens whether I go from a game disk to a blank (to burn music) or from one game to another...Makes no sense...Needless to say it is quite annoying. I would appreciate any help I can get to solve this problem.
