MARS III installation troubleshooting

Hello all,

I just installed a Mars III modchip into a V7 PS2. I went about it really carefully, checking all of the contacts after I soldered them and checking for shorts. I'm reasonably sure that the installation went well... er... except one thing. It doesn't work. The PS2 boots up to the welcome screen but there's a clicking noise from the CD drive (which, after I took it apart, seems to be from the laser lens moving up and down) and the PS2 browser shows "Disc Read Error" I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas?
