I've came upon a good amount of money recently and i'm finally going to buy a dvd burner. It's going to be great. I've only been able to make cd-r based PS2 games, but now I'll be able to play alot more.

So, my question is, which kinda DVD is better for PS2? (and while your answering that could you also tell me which kinda DVD is best for DVD movies)

I don't know why but I can't get even a single PS2 DVD backup to work on my expensive Sony DVD burner but 20 backups have worked flawlessly when burnt with my very inexpensive MADDOG. I hate to say it since everything I own is made by Sony but don't use Sony products to back up sony games. Just my thought.

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R

Yudens, Prodisc, Ritek are great discs. I myself use Princo's for ALL of my PS2 @4x, Xbox @8x and Movies @4x&8x. I would suggest using - type as they are the only ones compatible with ALL versions of PS2 and are less expensive than + type.

As for a Burner get yourself a Pioneer A08 or 108 OEM model and you'll be good to go and at about $75 US you can't go wrong.

Would this one be good?

EMPREX 16x DVD±RW INTERNAL DRIVE, DOUBLE LAYER

Internal 16X DVD+/-RW Double Layer 8.5GB DVD+/-RW Drive

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4246484

It's pretty cheap, and it supports DVD +/- and even DVD9's!
