Hi,

Yesterday I soldered a Duo 2 mod chip to my PS2 v4. I couldn't find instructions on exactly how to boot backups.

I can turn on the PS2 without a disc and I'll see the blue clouds thingy and I'm able to boot an original from the menu - however if I boot up the console with an original DVD/CD-R/DVD-R in, the PS2 just reads the disc briefly and I get a black screen.

The question is that is the "mod chip boot mode" activated when I boot the console with a disc? Are backups supposed to work from the browser as well? (if I insert a backup then I'll get the red clouds with "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 disc")

I'm thinking of two problems:

1) Poor soldering (I've checked the connections with a magnifying glass. I also have a multimeter but it doesn't have a mode for checking shorts.. can I use the resistance metering function somehow to check for shorts?).

Is there a technical description of what the soldering points functions actually are?

2) Based on what I've read on different forums, the V4 units have a rather short-lived laser and this unit is about 4 years old. Shouldn't I receive a dirty disc error or something similar?

3) Broken modchip. Luckily I have a spare chip and I'll try that.
