Losing 30MG off a 730MG movie file.

Hi, I've got a .mpg file that in total is 730MG, all my CD-R's are 700MG and I'd like some advice of fitting it on.
The movie contains all the degining and afters credits that last an age and I'm wondering if I edit all this out I may save 30MG.
Can someone please explain what software I'll need and how to go about it.
Failing this what other method would be best to storten the mpg file.
