Hey...

This is my first time converting from an XviD to DVD so bear with me.

Okay, most movie releases in XviD format are in NTSC-Film format but DVDs are only NTSC. I selected "3:2 Pulldown Playback" to bridge the framerate difference as was recommended to someone in another thread. Everything went fine but when I play the DVD there is a noticeable jerkiness in the playback. Nothing too head-wrecking but enough to be annoying.

Is this related to the "3:2 Pulldown Playback"?

Considering none of the XviD->DVD guides actually mention this issue should I simply ignore the difference in frame rate!? Do the software packages sort it out themselves?

Any help much appreciated.

I am using VirtualDubMod to extract AC3 audio. TmpgEnc Xpress to convert the video and TmpgEnc DVD Author to create the DVD which I burn with Nero.

Try using the templetes as they are.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it

I did that overnight with the same result!

Someone in another thread said to convert the file as-is using the given settings and then when authoring the DVD to use DVD-Lab which inserts the Pulldown Flags at that stage. I'll try that.

I find it odd that none of the AVI->DVD guides even broach this issue considering most XviD/DivX movies are in NTSC Film format.

I mean don't get me wrong... I am not expecting a perfect quality DVD but I just want to be sure I am not doing something wrong to cause the "problem."

Basically... is there always going to be a slight (and it is very slight) jerkiness when the frame rate is pushed from 24fps to 29fps?
