i am just wondering is it even worth it modding a v3 ps2? will it even be able to read backups? is was going to get the duo 2 se for it but am skeptical about it, i heard it has a weak laser, but would i be able to adjust and clean it to get it going good again?

sure it will, my v3 reads backup discs fine.

yes if you find that it doesnt read backups, just give the laser a good clean and also tweek the laser angle. everything should be fine after you do that.
had mine for 2 years and it rarely needs laser adjustments.
