BURNING FILM FROM HDD TO CD ROM

Hi!
I have Nero 6.0, I have DVD shrink 3.2, I have dvddecryptor!
Now this is what I am trying to do: I have a film on my hard drive that I want to burn.
How do I compress/shrink it? If I use the dvdshrink 3.2 programme to open the file (the film) then it informs me that it cant locate the file. I have moved the file around but that does not help. So what could be wrong? Any ideas?
Also. If I want to burn a film using nero, the file is too big. SO that is why I got the shrink programme. But since I cant open the film file, I cant shrink it! Talk about a catch 22!
I would really appreciate any help regarding this!

Hi again!
Just to clarify! The film I am trying to open is a video_ts.ifo file. but I have read that decryptor and shrink can open this type of file.....or did I get it wrong?

You cannot burn to a CDROM.
You require either a DVD Bruner or a CD Burner in order to burn.
Without extensive compression and encoding, you cannot fit a normal DVD movie on a CD.

What is the name of the film ???
How big , is too BIG ???
How many GB`s ???
Do you still have the original movie ???
What program did you use to get it onto your hard drive ???
You want to burn it ???
TO VCD ???
To SVCD ???
To DVD ???
Do you have a Burner, CD or DVD ????

Hi!
Thanks for your replies! I have copied films from my harddrive to a CD rom before. I just don't remember HOW I did it! I have a plextor cd burner and have used a normal CD rom to burn these movies and watched them on a dvd player. It worked just fine. They are normally in the size of 700 mb.
The present film was downloaded *from a legal site of course!!* and is about 788 mb, which is about 80 mb too big. Hence I want to compress or shrink it so that it will fit to a CD (it will be a VCD then I guess). But the shink programme can't locate the file?
Appreciate any help with this matter!

The file probably needs to be Un-ZIPPED.
You will need to use a program like Win-Rar or WinAce to do it.
After being " un -zipped " you should be able to burn the image file.

Hi again!
I unzipped it, and tried it that way. Even moved it to a new directory and dragged and dropped it...but then it said "file unrecognised"!! I know there is a way to do this....I just wish I could remember how! It is awfully frustrating since I am sitting on files on my PC that I want to burn!!
I actually got the programme win rar....what does that do? (sorry for all these really basic questions). The truth is that my boyfriend used to do most of this for me but he passed away and now I am realising that the process that looked so easy when he did it...wasn't so straightforward!!

After using Win-Rar or WinAce , Go to Nero :
Click on the Recorder tab, then Burn Image....
Browse until you find where you unzipped your file.
Change the drop down menu from Image files [* .nrg .iso .cue ] to All Files .
Click on it , then you are ready to burn....

Hi!
Thanks for all this help, but you need to clarify something for me (being a super newbie and all!). WHat exactly do you want me to use winRAR for? Isn't winRAR used to zip films? So, if I understand you correctly you want me to ZIP the film in winRAR and in that way make it smaller. THEN go to Nero and add this zipped file?

Win-Rar is used to break the film in this case into many pieces. 70 to 100 or more, this is to make it easier to download. On a Torrent site for example it is easier to download many small files than one BIG file , with the ensuing interruptions. And you can get pieces from other people that you need , who also do not have all of the movie or file pieces.
Once you have downloaded the file/film you need to use Win-Rar to reassemble the 70-100 pieces back into 1 file or .iso image so that it can be burned.

The file being too big, is normal. Until the file is reassembled using Win-Rar . After using Win_rar it will be slightly smaller and will fit.

hi again!
I tried using a file that was in a winRAR format and added it to Nero, which presumably would be the same as me making a file into a winRAR file!? Anyway, Nero didn't like it! It said that hte file is invalid and that I need MPEG-1 "which was encoded for Video-CD" End of quote.
Following problems:
stream encoding which is invalid for a VCD
-no audio
-no video
.....any bright ideas?

Open Win-Rar .....
Click on FILE , drop down menu.....
Open Archive.....
Look In ....[ " Browse to Where your file is " ]
Files of Type should be either:
ALL ARCHIVES or ALL ARCHIVES INCLUDING SELF EXTRACTING
Click on file or film.....
Then click on open
Next Screen click on your film
Create a folder on your desk top....
Now click on the FOLDER top left of Win-Rar Screen : Extract to....
Find the folder you created on your desktop....
High light it by clicking on it
Then click OK
A progress indicator that says EXTRACTING From will come up....
In a minute or so your file will be reassembled and ready for NERO

Hi!
Thank you for the very detailed message! Unfortunately it did not work! The file I want to burn is divided into two CDs. Could that have anything to do with it? You see, wehn I have used the winRAR and want to add it to Nero, it says that I need MPEG-1. What does that mean?
At least I know how winRAR works now!!
Again, if you could think of what to do next, I would really appreciate it.

After using Win-Rar and ending up with 2 files or cd`s , what are the file extensions on the 2 cd`s that Win-Rar created ; .cue , .iso , .exe , .AVI ......
Because otherwise your next step should be from 7 messages above:
After using Win-Rar or WinAce , Go to Nero :
Click on the Recorder tab, then Burn Image....
Browse until you find where you unzipped your file.
Change the drop down menu from Image files [* .nrg .iso .cue ] to All Files .
Click on it , then you are ready to burn....
