MPT, V220, and "Unsupported Formats"

Hello. Let me try to give as much info as possible before asking my question. First, I have a Mini USB connected to my V220 from my home PC. The drivers "appear" to be correctly installed. I do not have a modem established, however, nor do I have any intention of establishing one (I am under the impression that the modem would work through my mobile phone, which I neither need nor want). I attempted to transfer an MP3 selection that I originally edited through GoldWave software. It is less than 800Ks and in mono format. Every time I try to use the "Transfer" function on the Melody Studio, I get this message:

"Unsupported format - No conversion possible."

I also tried the following, with the same level of success:

1. creating an MP3 selection through the Melody Studio.
2. transferring a "Sample" MP3 that came with the MPT.
3. transferring a "Sample" .midi that came with MPT.

Other things also happened, which may or may not be important:

1. Every time I try to load MPT, it tells me that it is searching for the modem. Obviously, it fails, and loads the program with no messages.
2. Every time I try to load the Melody Studio, I get the same modem message. Same result.
3. Occasionally, I get a prompt asking how my phone will be connected (USB, Bluetooth, Infrared). I have assumed that this means that my USB isn't pushed far enough into my phone.

Honestly, all I care about is why I can't transfer ANY music files back and forth, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
