plz help hard drive wont work now

ok i just got a new ps2 hard drive the one with ffXI and installed some games on it and it worked fine then i put the hard drive in my best friends ps2 and it just stoped working both mine and his ps2s will not read the hard drive and when i put the hdd utility disc in it says checking hard drive but never loads up the options to fix it.I cant use hdloader now too its like the hard drive just died but the light for the hard drive is on when i try to load the utility disc and hdloader plz help
