if boot up on cd, xp will give you the option to do a repair or you can just reinstall xp so it can fix/overwrite any corrupted files

I am having the same problem reading DVD (from blockbuster) using C2612.
I am using an ASUS laptop with Toshiba DVD ROM C2612 with XP Professional installed on it. BIOS has been updated to the newest version.

I have tried the followings:
1) remove the current driver and have Windows restore the driver.
2) remove the current driver and user XP CD to pick the best driver for it. Didn't work.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I did not know I would come back here so quick.
Since I fixed the problem I would like to share with people who are going to come here to read in the future...

There is a new Firmware released by Toshiba during April 2005. Try this following link, it might fix your problem:

To ddp: no, there was no exclamation mark when I checked the hardware list. Everything looked normal, except the DVD could not be read.

i am still having problems. do i have to have my windows disk or is there another way to fix my problem. this is what i get when trying to reinstall the driver.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
