Flip top install prob/question

I have a V4 PS2 and I just got a flip top for it. I got the right type (for V4 ps2) and installed it. The disc spins but is makes a loud noise which sounds like the white cap which you insert on the flip lid is not pressing down hard enough on the dvd drive and the disc is lose. If I put a coffee cup on top of the flip lid right in the middle where the white piece is it reduces the sound greatly but I can still here it. The games work, I just can't image this is good for the dvds or the drive itself. Any suggestions or ideas?
