V2 PS2 is the SM3 the best?

Hello im new to the board. Ive been reading the reviews/problems etc of the SM3.3 set. Currently im borrowing a v2 ps2 from a friend who proibly wont ever want it back. Ive though of sodering a modchip in but with large ammounts of wires and no no soder alternative I have been thinking of ordering a SM3.

Is my best bet the SM3 im worried that it wont work correctly with a older ps2. The only games im looking at backing up are FFX-International FFX-2 Wild Arms Xenosaga and other Rpgs.

What do you all think would be my best solution (other then buying my own pstwo)

1. don't get the no solder chip
2. there is no point of getting the version 3 if you already have v2.
3. if you really want to mod a ps2, sell yours on ebay and buy a brand new premod (your laser is probably going to die on you in the near future).
