If your Playstation is not modded at all, you will need to have HDLoader or HDA. You will only need it once though, so if you know someone who has one you could borrow it.

nonmodded ps2 can boot hdloader using mc exploit..
many ways to do it, heres some ways...
using AR MAX EVO or COdebreaker and use of pendrive and ps2savebuilder(lets u create max save file) and then neccessary files like hdlaoder.elf, ps2menu.elf use as BOOT.ELF and but important list title.db...
