I still cant get philips dvp642 to play subs, help?

This time when i burned a .sub file and the movie which i downloaded, i changed the name of the .sub file to the exact same as the movie file. But still doesnt work. In the menu, when i press subtitle when this .sub file is highlighted, i get the hand in the upperleft hand corner. If i click OK or play on it, it plays, buts its just a black screen and the times running. How do i get the subtitles to work. Has any1 actually got them to work?
