oops i realized this should be in the dvd authoring section.... ill post it there. moderator, if you would, delete this. thanks

I am quite familiar with backing up dvds onto dvd5 discs from dvd9.... usually i end up chopping off most of the stuff and burn the main movie only and avoid any compression. I dont mind having no extras on the disc, but I am a little bit bothered by putting in the disc and the movie starting right away.

I'd like to atleast have the title menu where I choose "play" before the movie starts. I am not sure exactly hot to do this, or even if it is possible. I was thinking that if I keep the title menu, nothing will work except the "play" button, since there are no chapters or scene selection. That is OK with me.

Is there a way to remove all buttons except for "play"? that would be even better, but for now I just want to know if there even is a way to reauthor a dvd9 keeping the main movie only, while retaining the title menu in any form.

Absolutely, I do it whenever I get a PAL dvd and convert it to NTSC. I use dvd-lab Pro, but there are others too. Ignore the conversion process from PAL to NTSC, it has nothing to do with the menus you're needing to do. Basically, using dvd-lab pro, you rip the video and audio (demux them), then put whatever picture you like in a menu, then draw a box or one of their built in shapes around the area you want to use for the "Play" button, and then just link that box to the movie, compile the DVD and burn it. You can have menu buttons that call up other menus, whatever you want. Or, you can just take any still frame from a movie and make THAT be your menu background. You can make it as simple or as complex as you wish.

I have been looking for this answer for ages. I use Nero Express to create DVD's from .AVI files but the menu system is rubbish. The thing I like about Nero is it re-encodes the AVI to .vobs fast. So if I recode using Nero without menus I can then use DVDlab pro to create the menus save to HD and burn with Nero. Well I'll give it a go and let you know!
