problem with cyberhome dvd writer

My dvd rewrite drive will not read a disc. It worked at first but now the drive won't even recognize a DvD period. still have no trouble writing one, but won't let me backup one. I have dvdshrink and nero that came with the unit, also dvdecyptor. I also downloaded the latest firmware. All the latest downloads for each program. any thoughts on what is going on here?
