How does this software actually works (program to
identify DVD-R media)? There is some read-me, but
it´s mainly in Japanese...

When I start the program (and the DVD is in), nothing
happens with the software. I use iMac, OS X. No
superdrive.

There is a code on every DVD-R that identifies the brand or manufacturer. It is useful to know because many companies make their own buy media from others. So you can buy a sony this week that is made by Taiyo Yuden, but next week it may be made by someone else. I have a list of codes that work well with certain burners.

The best list is here:

Thanks, but I do understand that. :)

My question is, that how the software works (=what will I do to get the info from the certain DVD).

When I start it, it doesn´t do any "scanning" (when I have a DVD "in") etc, nor there aren´t any options on the menus.

When I read this read-me, it´s mainly in Japanese, and it says something about the "finder"..

I know this might be stupid, but I can´t figure it out.

Thanks again.

All you do is select your dvd reader that is in the list. You put your dvd-r in, and then load the dvd media inspector. It then will tell you in a small text display what you have.

Ok, thanks, I think I got it.

I tried Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD-R 8X.

It says "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG Media" on the top, and from the "Pre-recorded Information in Lead-in" you can find: "MCC 02 RG2".

MCC should be good (CMC not that good)?

If you check out that list many people have rated the media. So you can get an idea there.
