Games can work fine burning at higher speeds, I always burn at max speed and almost always get my backups to work. Some people do swear that you need to burn at low speeds but I've never noticed a difference. So the problem probably's with the way you're backing up the game. If you could post more info (ie. what game it is, how you boot the game, what steps you took to backup the game) it could help people to solve your problem.

Compatibility issues can be caused by the burning speed, the DVD player or by the DVD media. Should things go wrong the first thing to do is make sure you have followed our guide literally. Next try the process with some other DVD media -- the quality of the discs really makes a huge difference
From:

Run DVD indentifier on your dvd and see what is
the accepted recording speeds are.

Good media will burn good backups up to 4x.
But for safety i burn at 1x and never have problems.
(I had to buy 4x max disks however to get
a 1x accepted speeed.)
Most 8x media wont support 1x in a lot of burners.

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)

Most ps2 users arent very heavy PC users, like me.

my pc only has 256 MB of ram, so if i try to burn a PS2 game, my piddly RAM isnt gonna help much at a high speed, lower speeds just seem to increase the ods of getting a successful backup.

My roommates computer has a GB of ram and i can copy games at max on that, on this i hav to restart PC b4 i burn with no otha programs running to ensure i get a good copy.
