Use Better Media
Ps2 requires a darker (AZO) dye.
save those for movie backup,
and get some good media.
I backed up mgs3 on fujifilm (made in japan) (YUDEN)
And have no problems.

ON MGS3
(im currently naked and being tortured by volgin,
but thats a whole nother thread)

Good luck

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)

Hehe, I remember that scene with Volgin where he beats the crap outta Snake.

Back to the topic, how good are the TY +R? I'm currently using Verbatim -R (MCC 02RG20)and even tho I'm burning at 2x, a few of the games I've backed up are skipping in the videos. I'd burn all my backups at 1x, but it wont let me. I'm thinking of buying the 50 pack TY+R silver.

Wel well well Jizmak!

I've been backing up ps2 games for ages and this forum has been awesome.

I hav learnt the hard way about bad media choices and no-one has ever mentioned the darker AZO dye you mentioned. Thanks HEAPS for the site. Im in New Zealand and we dont hav alot of the dvd medias that this forum suggests (Ritek etc) but its good to know that TDK's and Mitsibishi Chemicals dvd-rs r tops.

Thanks!!! i now have a REASON why sum dvd medias r crap.

Cheers!

im leaning towards the quality of media causing skipping then the speed at which a game is burned.
w/goldeneye rogue agent, i burned @ x4 & i had minor skipping. when i burned @ x2 it was worse.
now that i have sony +r (TY). ive had no probs burning @ x4. backups work great. i even backed up a copy of burnout 3 that skipped. ripped then burned @ x4 to a sony dvd. and the copy was perfect.

You have to find what the "ACCEPTABLE RECORDING SPEED"
for your media.
(run disk identifier or Nero cd/dvd tool)
Whatever those speeds are you should not burn faster or slower than those speeds.

I would get some good 4x max media,
That media should support (1x,2x,2.4x.4x)

A lot of the faster media doesnt support slower speeds.
