OK, I just tried it in my 3rd and final dvd drive and it worked (DONT ASK LOL) ok ok, so i admit, im a little bit of a geek, but we all are!

I am concluding (aside RE2) our ripping success depends on the drives and as far as I can see there isnt a dominant brand that works well. One nec crapped out easily (coudlnt even rip it with decryptor)while my new NEC is flying through it. My TDK could rip it, but then shrink couldnt open the files. I think it definitely depends on what hardware your using to rip the movies.. IMHO maybe the lasers?

What do you people think?

Crap - you're likely to have a short career as as theorist.

Don't give up you day job.

With correct software and methods there are no problems in copying these movies.

I kind of agree with colw here (yes, don't quit your day job), but do want to clarify something for your elucidation.

For sure, bad hardware could give you trouble ripping. But that's not the problem with Forgotten and other recent titles. Even with good hardware, you won't get 'em ripped without the right software (e.g. an updated version of dvd decrypter).

Do the math:

Bad hardware + wrong software = no rip.

Bad hardware + right software = no rip.

Good hardware + wrong software = no rip.

So you think that because it was bad hardware two out of the three cases, that bad hardware is really problem?

That's why colw said not to quit your day job. ;)

A good theorist will understand the difference between causation and association, and will not commit the post hoc ergo procter hoc fallacy.

Actually, since i have 3 different computers, all with the same exact updated programs (shrink and decryptor) with the exact same default settings - i assumed it would be common sense to think the only thing different was the burners being used... So.. if im saying im using the same software, and the results varied on each pc wouldnt it be hardware? I use the same OS. but to what degree can tha affect it?

Superb comback. I'm in your corner nofate! All of that typing for no reason. I personally would have asked him what the conditions were before making an assumption like that.

Looks like the math is:

(Bad Hardware * Good Software) + (Bad Hardware * Good Software) + (Good Hardware * Good Software) = Success :)!

Can't a member be casual (You flammed him because he used the word "Crap")?
Ced

I know diablos - ASSumptions, but who cares right? Seems like after I made the situation clear they had nothing to say anyways. hehehe

I ditched the TDK burner and put another 3520A NEC in my other tower. Also, to be fair to the testing there is one other significant difference.

The box that has always worked. Had the newest NEC burner and XP with NO Service Packs....hrrmmmmmm

I doubt that would have any effect, but now that I have the same burner in a box with XP SP2 we will def. know. I just haven't come across another problematic disc. Well have to wait and see!!
