I don't own a PS2 but I intend to get one.
I just want to find the best way (safe & cheap)
to play my backups.

I think the best way is using USB Hard Drive.
I just want to ask a few things.

- Is the Hard Drive method compatible with PSTwo(Slim)?
If it's not, what versions are compatible?

- Do I have to mod my PS2?

- Can I use any PC/Laptop hard drive with a USB Case,
with any specifications I want?

- In what file system should the Drive be formated?
(If it has to be something different from NTFS or
FAT32 what software do I have to use to format the
Drive?)

- Does HD Loader or HD Advance boots from a burned
disc?

- In what form should the games be stored in the Drive
(ISO,MDS...)?

Any other information is appreciated.

hd advance is a good way to do it.In the instruction book for it it says that you can play your burned backup but you have to use the swap magic disc.Which means you need to get a chip or a gameshark verson 2 to boot it up.hope i helped you out

- The hard drive for the PS2 is not compatible with the slim PS2 as it cannot fit.

- You do not need to mod your PS2 to play backup games, just get the Hd advance or swap magic.

- The HD advance formats the drive.

- If you want to find a cheap place:

- You can convert backup games but you need the slide tool or magic switch to swap the discs around.

- When you burn a game onto a disc then convert it onto your ps2 hard drive it converts it to the right format.

- If you want to tranfer from your PC use a program called WinHiip or Hd Handiness.

hey salz281,

I have an older version PS2 and plan on buying HD Advance and a new hard drive. To convert backup games from the ps2 cd/dvd drive to the new hard drive all i need is WinHiip correct? Do i still need slide tool or magic switch? no swap needed right?

salz281, you say the hdd cannot be used on the slimline ps2 because it will not fit, surely it can be connected via usb connection but will it run using HDadvance 2.0? or is there some other way of getting it to work through the usb?
